So I’ve left Canada to go around the world (once again), and I won’t be blogging here much, but you can check out my current blog on www.shawnarae.com! See you there!
To celebrate all of the hard work I’ve put into making my new website, I’ve decided to help brides choose their wedding photographer for 2017 (ehem, me 😉 ) by putting on a promotion!
I’m currently offering a high quality canvas ($450 value) with every package booked and 10% off all of my wedding services for 2017.
How awesome is that? I would love it if you could mention this to anyone you know is looking for a wedding photographer this year! In fact, if I hear you referred a bride who books a wedding with me, I will give YOU 10% off any of my portraiture packages, including engagement, maternity, honeymoon, and trash the dress!
Over the next two-three years I won’t be shooting as much in Vancouver as I will be living in Australia, New Zealand, and Belgium (respectively) so help me end this year with some fun, adventurous brides who are crazy about their soon-to-be husbands!
I’m sitting at home right now watching it pour down outside, thinking of sunnier days. Well it’s almost that time, and I can’t wait! Summer is upon us and the sun will keep shining soon enough. For now I’m just thankful for the raindrops watering all of those beautiful plants out there so they can bloom and make the streets of as Vancouver beautiful as ever 🙂
Soon everyone will be on the beach having BBQs, swimming in the ocean, and making sandcastles. People will be heading on camping trips and up to the mountains for something other than snow sports. I can’t wait to get some hiking in myself this year! We’ve had a wet and cold winter, it’s time for the clouds to dry up and let in some sun rays.
This shoot I did at Jericho Beach park during a sunny evening and I had so much fun with this couple. I could really see their love for one another and I was so excited to get to shoot their wedding! I was looking through these photos today and it really made me excited for the upcoming summer season (hence this post 😉 ). Here’s a few snaps from their engagement session.
So a while back, during off season, I had a huge craving to shoot some photos. I decided to plan a photo shoot to keep me busy and inspired, so I grabbed a model and a makeup artist and we went out to Stanley Park! It was really nice to get out in the sun since it had been raining non-stop it seemed for months at that point (good ol’ Vancouver weather).
During the off season I find it very hard to sit still, so I generally go travelling. During the times when I am at home I need to do something creative to keep myself from going crazy. I do have the odd shoot here and there, but not enough to keep me happy, so it’s nice to plan stuff like this once in a while. I loved the way this turned out and I am excited to be doing a few photo shoots coming up soon! Not to mention it’s nearly full-on wedding season! Can’t wait 🙂

These places look amazing! I’m sure if you book far enough in advance you can snag a day. I personally would love to get married in a place like any of these, they’re gorgeous. Definitely photographer heaven!
So a while back, when I was still in photo school, I was lucky enough to do a practicum with a photographer in New York. I was studying photojournalism at the time with a photographer who worked for the NY Times, Reuters, and many other well known outlets- it was amazing! Although I can’t post anything from any of our assignments, I can post some photos I took of New York itself while I was visiting. I was there during NYE and it was quite the experience. I can’t say I lasted the whole evening in Time Square, I think I shuffled through people for a few hours and left by 10pm, but it was cool to say I was there! So I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who is claustrophobic 😉
I am one of the few photographers who actually attended photo school. I think it helped me a lot and was an amazing experience, I wouldn’t be where I am now without it!
For one of my projects I had to create a portrait with writing on the subject in a creative manor. I had a pregnant friend who was wanting some different style maternity photos, so I combined what she wanted with what I needed for my school project, and voila! I managed to project an image on my friend’s body of a typed up journal entry about her pregnancy. Then, I added in some extra lighting to make the photo more interesting, and I was pretty happy about the result 🙂
It’s coming into wedding season! I’m hoping to have some time for more conceptual projects like this one was, but with all the weddings I have coming up it might have to wait until winter. Looking forward to it, whenever it happens 🙂
Welcome to my new website and my new blog! I’ve been working tirelessly over the past couple weeks to perfect my online presence, and I think I’m finally happy with where I’ve gotten. I am excited to finally get away from my computer screen and go for a walk in the sunshine (believe it or not, it’s currently sunny out!).
So, since this is a new blog that’s clean of my past and any other information, I thought it might be nice to do a few throwbacks here and there. I’m going to start with a few photos from my VERY FIRST WEDDING EVER. I shot this as a second shooter five years ago, and that is when my passion for weddings began.
Here’s to mixing new beginnings with past experiences!
